David Barral

David brings a wealth of experience to the Curtis Banks Group following an extensive executive and Non-Executive career in financial services spanning 40 years. His current portfolio includes Non-Executive director Chair of Rowanmoor Group and Non-Executive director of The Pensions Superfund. Previous Non-Executive roles have included chair of Embark, senior independent director of LV Group, Non-Executive director of LV General Insurance, independent customer champion at Quilter and chair of Virgin Wines. He is a former CEO of Aviva UK and Ireland Life, Aviva’s largest business unit, achieving profit of £1bn. He has previously chaired the ABI Retirement and Savings Committee and was a member of the Financial Services Authority Retail Distribution Review Taskforce. David brings a mix of strategic leadership, transformation and operational experience with a strong focus on value creation, performance, customers and risk and governance.
Ross Allen

Ross has an extensive career in IT and Operations, holding a number of leadership roles, most recently as Platform Development Director at abrdn. Ross has significant experience of running large operational environments and complex Transformation and Integration programmes, including the acquisition of the Elevate platform by Standard Life. Earlier in his career Ross was a consultant with Accenture where he specialised in delivering technology change across a number of sectors.
Ross joined Curtis Banks as Chief Operating Officer in May 2023.
Dan Cowland

Dan is a Fellow of the ICAEW, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young in 1997. Having worked in EY’s Banking and Capital Markets group, Dan moved to the WestLB owned Panmure Gordon business where he spent seven years in various finance roles, latterly as the Head of Finance. Dan performed senior finance roles at Lehman Brothers, Macquarie Bank and Shore Capital Stockbrokers before being appointed to the Board of WH Ireland plc in March 2014 as Finance Director. Dan joined Curtis Banks in July 2019 as the Group’s Chief Financial Officer.
Following the acquisition of Talbot and Muir in 2020, Dan holds the position of Director for Talbot and Muir.
Paul Darvill

Paul has been involved in the financial services industry for all of his working life. After spending nine years gaining experience with life assurance companies, he joined Talbot and Muir in 1995 as a SSAS Administrator. Paul now heads up the firm’s entire administration function, and during his many years with us has gained considerable knowledge and technical expertise in the SSAS and SIPP fields.
Jacqueline Lane

Jacqui’s career in financial services started at Standard Life where she worked for over a decade. Her last role at Standard Life, as Branch Office Manager, included providing technical and administrative support for professional advisers focusing on pensions. In 1987, she joined an adviser firm and continued her specialism in pensions and undertook a variety of roles, culminating in being appointed Technical & Compliance Director. Jacqui is now Talbot and Muir’s Compliance Officer, and has responsibility for all regulatory and compliance issues.
Chris Hall

Chris joined Talbot and Muir in 2013,bringing with him 30 years experience in Life and Pensions. His career has mostly been within the branch networks of Clerical Medical and more recently Aegon UK, where he was a Sales Support Manager responsible for new business sales support. Chris also spent several years working within the IFA side of the industry and so is fully aware of the importance of good service. Chris now heads up the Adviser Support function at Talbot and Muir.
Peter Moran

Pete has worked in pensions administration for many years. He spent five years at Prudential where he worked in numerous back office roles before joining Talbot and Muir in 2002 as a SIPP Administrator. Pete now manages the firm’s SIPP administration function, supervising and training our team of SIPP Administrators.
Thomas Hickling

Tom started his career in the pensions industry at Winterthur Life (now AXA Wealth), where he was later selected to develop their SIPP product. He joined Talbot and Muir in 2009 as a SIPP Administrator, and moved to the SSAS department after several years to gain further experience in the self-administered pensions field. Tom now manages the firm’s SSAS administration function, overseeing SSAS establishments and takeovers as well as supervising our team of SSAS Administrators.
Gemma Fenton

Gemma joined Talbot and Muir in 2016, and has 20 plus years of experience in the Self Invested Pensions market. Gemma focuses on growing relationships and supporting advisers and their clients and holds the Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning. Gemma now heads up the sales team for Talbot and Muir.
Outside of work Gemma is a keen golfer and enjoys walking.
